The Greek architecture as we saw it at the 5th ESO Conference

Perhaps the most creative action around the design and architecture, the ESO conference took place at the Onassis Cultural Centre last Wednesday, 17/2. This was the fifth consecutive organization, sponsored by Avax, and it collected one more time the most important people concerning the Greek Architecture. The auditorium was filled with about 800 people who attended the lectures of the most important personalities of architecture and design.

The first part began with Block722 Architects who presented two amazing houses in Syros, designed by them. Dionysis Sotovikis also spoke of the expression beyond architecture through examples from his extensive work.

Margarita Ventouri developed the process behind the iconic works of Renzo Piano and Santiago Calatrava in Greece, while Kirios Kriton, presented the approach of his new project, the space of the bar-restaurant "Tha se kano Vasilissa" and made a retrospective of his work to date.

In the second part, Stelios Kois, through a series of screenings, made a comment on the importance of the experience of space, the magic of materials and the substance of time. Kommigraphics, coming from the world of visual communication, described the strategy that the follow in the creative process of branding and Katerina Kotzia referred to the value of the graphic by reference to one of the best greek pavilions at the Venice Biennale of 2006, named “Archipelago”.

Finally Kyriakos Chatziparaskevas, representative of the Heatherwick Studio, presented some of his works as the distillery company of Bombay Sapphire, the Garden Bridge in England, the platform "Pier 55" in New York and the Google Campus in California.

Somehow like that we remembered how creative and pioneering remains the Greek view in terms of architecture and design and we got informed of the progress. Now, we only have to wait for the next event.
